Katie Harvey

katie-h1.) Describe your involvement in the Arabian horse breed as a volunteer, and what your accomplishments are:
I currently serve as Vice President of APAHA, a position I have held for a number of years. I also serve as Co-Chair of the APAHA Amateur Committee alongside Van Jacobsen. In addition to those roles, I also am a Vice Chair for the AHA Amateur Committee, which I have served as for the last three years. I also serve as an AHA Convention delegate. I believe that our industry is evolving with more people taking leadership roles and all of us understanding that we can’t expect others to fix our problems. It takes larger input to move our industry forward.
2.) What are some of the highlights and successful moments involving the Arabian horse for you in 2015?
This is a great question. There are so many unique and rewarding moments for me with the Arabian horse community. They range from the obvious of successfully winning a national championship to introducing someone new to the breed to successfully helping pass a resolution that will have a positive impact on our industry. It’s successfully learning a new division (reined cow horse) and making it through a western pleasure class without completely imploding. It’s also about watching my friends and team members succeed and share in their victories.
3.) If someone were to describe you, what would they say about you?
I hope they would say that I give more than I take. I hope they would say that I try to leave things better than when I got them. That I am a fixer and a doer. And that I am much less about the winning than I am about the horses, the learning and the friendships. Arabian horses bring tremendous joy to my life and I appreciate every aspect of the Arabian community.
